So thrilled to see Macca The Alpaca on a list of kids books recommended by the new Australian Children's Laureate, Morris Gleitzman, in The Sun Herald this past weekend. Amazing to be mentioned in such great company. Thank you Morris (and your bookseller friends!).
Books make awesome Christmas presents for many, many reasons, including they are dead easy to wrap! (This is very important around 11pm Xmas Eve) So...
This Sunday 17th December, from 4pm, Better Read Than Dead is holding their Newtown Locals Evening. Meet heaps of local authors and illustrators (like me!), have a drink (or two) and buy a book (or three).
Whether the munchkins in your life have been naughty or nice, my Epic Fail Tales books make the perfect gift. Snow Man and the Seven Ninjas is only 5 bucks!! Once personalised with an autograph - PRICELESS (OK, still only $5, but much cooler).
I'll be there signing, scribbling, hand shaking, high-fiving and fist bumping at Better Read Than Dead, King St, Newtown, from 4 to 8pm, so please drop by and say hi!
It was such a thrill to appear at the Melbourne Writers Festival this week! As part of the Schools' Program, I had a blast sharing drawing tips with budding artists and twisting soppy old stories into Epic Fail Tales with the help of the cheering student audience. It's always a good sign when the kids are already drawing and writing as they're leaving the presentation! Great to see creativity in action. Hope my message - Keep Drawing, Keep Reading, Keep Writing - stays with them.
I believe "LOL-tastic" is the kid's book equivalent of 3 Michelin Stars. Thanks to Mania Magazine for this cool review of Epic Fail Tales: Attack of the Giant Robot Zombie Mermaid in their July issue.
Over the past week I've had the amazing opportunity to be a keynote speaker at two IMAGINATION events, hosted by Halogen Australia - premier providers of leadership education and inspiration for Australian Youth, partnered with Scholastic.
I thought the crowd of close to 1500 in Adelaide was big, but on Monday in Melbourne, I was literally shaking in my boots in front of almost 4500 students and teachers.
I spoke about finding your passion, staying positive, being persistent, surrounding yourself with supportive people and, most importantly, the power of imagination. For someone who spends most of their days by themselves, writing and drawing alone in a quiet room, I was definitely out of my comfort zone. I have to admit though, it was kind of a rock star moment to be on a stage in front of an audience that size cheering, whooping and applauding for you!
A big thank you to everyone who made it possible and all the people who came along and were so enthusiastic! And a special thank you to the teachers and students who waited so patiently in line to grab a copy of Snow Man and the Seven Ninjas! I hope you've enjoyed the book!
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the library...
Epic Fail Tales: Attack of the Giant Robot Zombie Mermaid is on its way!
Hitting all good book stores on the 1st of May, this is a retelling of The Little Mermaid with bite! Anyone with "BRAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSS" is advised to start running now!
Burpy: Always fun at parties.
Talk about being in good company! In the online promos for Issue 1 of the Scholastic Book Club 2017, I've got the awesome Aaron Blabey umm... errr... busting right above me, my hero Dav Pilkey - creator of Captain Underpants - unleashed in the top corner, and best of all, right next to my book, Epic Fail Tales: Snow Man and the Seven Ninjas, there's a Star Wars Death Trooper!! The force is with me!
You can download the new catalogue at:
The day the advance copies of your new book land on your doorstep is always a good day. (Plus there's bubble wrap to pop! Bonus!!)
